BREAKING: Carnival Sunshine Delayed One Day from Norfolk Due to Weather

Update: Carnival has released compensation details.
Carnival Sunshine guests awaiting the October 12, 2025 sailing from Norfolk, VA, face a one-day delay. Carnival Cruise Line has confirmed the ship cannot dock until Monday morning due to severe weather. This forces a shortening of the upcoming Bermuda cruise itinerary.
Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, shared the message Saturday afternoon. The weather affects both the cruise returning to Norfolk and the next sailing that was due to depart today.
Key Details for Affected Guests
- Arrival Delay: Carnival Sunshine will not dock until Monday morning, October 13
- Cause: Strong winds, high seas, and the expected overnight closure of the Chesapeake Bay channel by the U.S. Coast Guard
- Itinerary Impact: The six-day Bermuda cruise (originally departing October 12) is shortened by one day
- Guest Instruction: Do not proceed to the terminal today. Carnival expects to provide a final update by 4:00 PM ET on Sunday, October 12.
Carnival has not yet released full compensation details for affected guests but is expected to include that information in the scheduled 4:00 PM update. Into the Funnel will provide additional coverage as soon as those details are announced.
